St. Olaf Falls on the Road to St. John's
January 11, 2001
St. John's University defeated St. Olaf in convincing fashion 90-60 behind 27 points from Troy Bigalke and seven assists from Ryan Keating. Mike Ludwig (So., Blaine, Minn.) had 23 points, while Matt Schlenker (FY., Rochester, Minn.) added ten points and seven rebounds for the Oles in a losing effort.
St. Olaf led early, but St. John's moved into the lead for good midway though the half on the heels of Bigalke. The senior guard had 17 first half points. The Oles fought back in the closing minutes of the first half when Ludwig converted two free throws to cut the St. John's lead to five. The Johnnie's countered with a five point run to lead by ten at the half, 40-30. The closest St. Olaf would get the rest of the way would be six, at 47-41, before St. John's would race to their fourth conference win.
St. Olaf travels to St. Paul Saturday to play St. Thomas at Shoenoeker Arena at 7:30 p.m. The game can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
