Ole Wrestlers Compete at North Country Invite
January 11, 2001
The Ole wrestlers had a successful day at the North Country Invitational Tournament held at St. John's University in Collegeville. The injury-depleted Oles had only seven wrestlers competing, but still finished 8th out of fifteen teams, including nationally ranked teams from Division III and the NAIA.
Senior John Holm (Northfield, Minn.) had the strongest individual performance, as he went 3-2 to finish in 4th place. He lost a tough match for third place by a score of 3 to 1. Senior Shaun Murphy (Northfield, Minn.) won his first two matches before withdrawing due to illness. His efforts were still good enough for a 6th place finish. Senior Matt Picchietti (Chicago, Ill.) wrestled well, recording a pin in only 25 seconds against Josh Neumann of UW-River Falls.
The team is looking forward to its next matchup, against UW-Eau Claire at 7:00 on Jan. 11th when they will hopefully have a full lineup as key wrestlers Alex Morf, Isaac Norstad, and Chris Schulteis look to return to action.
