Free Throws Carry Tommies over Oles

St. Thomas had five players in double figures as they defeated St. Olaf 89-78. The 23rd ranked Tommies shot 53% from the field and 88% from the line in the victory. Mike Ludwig (So., Blaine, Minn.) and Tim Nelson (So., Braham, Minn.) led the Oles with 22 and 19 points respectively.
St. Thomas led by as many as 18 early on, but the Oles battled back throughout. St. Olaf made an 11-4 run at the end of the first half cutting the lead to nine at the break, 43-34. The lead was cut even further in the second half when Nelson hit one of his four 3-point baskets to bring the Oles within four, 47-43. St. Thomas clinched the game at the line, going 20 of 22 in the second half. Mychal Brenden had 19 points for the Tommies in the victory. For the Oles, Matt Schlenker (Fr., Rochester, Minn.) and Kevin Jaunich (So., Delano, Minn.) added 13 points a piece in the loss.
The Oles play host to Augsburg on Monday at 7:30 at Skoglund Athletic Center. The Auggies are undefeated in MIAC play and have won eight of their last nine. The game is free of admission and can be heard on KDHL radio, 920 AM.
