Elisa Hatlevig
January 15, 2001

In their second consecutive overtime in a week, the St. Olaf women fell to Augsburg College 90-89. The Oles fought back again and again, but could not capitalize. At the end of regulation with the scored tied at 62, the Oles missed two free throws to send the game into the first OT.

Early in the first OT the Oles battled back from an eight point deficit. Finding themselves at the charity stripe with two seconds remaining and down three, Carrie Cooley (Jr., Villard, Minn.) connected on the front end of a bonus to pull the Oles within two. On a crossing play and an intentionally missed free throw, Elisa Hatlevig (Sr., Rushford, Minn.) grabbed the miss for the putback, knotting the game at 76 and forcing a second OT. After exchanging baskets in the second OT, the Oles missed another opportunity to put the game away on Carrie Cooley's short jumper, forcing the third OT. With seven seconds remaining in the third, Liz Mundahl (So., Eagan, Minn.) put the Oles up by one on a three point basket. The Auggies took the ball the length of the floor and scored on Kelly Chapman's driving layup to give Augsburg the victory.

Six Oles scored in double figures with Cara Battles (Jr., McGregor, Minn.) leading the charge at 15 points. Liz Woodrow (Jr., Aitkin, Minn.), Elisa Hatlevig and Liz Mundahl each had 14, followed by Carrie Cooley and Lisa Eidenschink (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) with 11. Eidenschink had a game high 20 rebounds and Hatlevig added 11.

The Oles are 5-6 overall (3-5 MIAC) and play host to the College of St.Catherine at 7:30 on Wednesday, January 17 at Skoglund Center.
