The Ole women opened a tough series against the Auggies last Thursday night at Augsburg College. The Auggies, who were NCAA Division III national runners up for the 1999-2000 season, provided extremely tough opposition for the first year Ole team. St Olaf jumped on the board first, at 1:47 of the first period, with a goal by first year defender Jennie Pinkerton (Minot, ND), her first of the season. The goal was assisted by Angela Fjerstad (SO, Rochester, MN) however, the Auggies rallied with a goal six minutes later to tie the game. They continued on their scoring ways to beat the Oles 10-1. St Olaf goalie Amanda Chumbley (SO, Menomonee Falls, WI) had 40 saves for the Oles.

On Saturday night, the Auggies traveled to Northfield to face the Oles again for the second game of the series. This time the Auggies scored first, shortly after the puck dropped, but the Oles quickly came back to tie the game with a goal scored by Nadia Nickerson (JR, Powell, WY) and assisted by Sara Vandenberg (JR,Mound, MN).Augsburg managed to take the lead again with two minutes left in the first period. They went on to win the game 10-1. In goal again for the Oles, Amanda Chumbley (SO, Menomonee Falls, WI) had 46 saves.

On Tuesday, the Ole women faced the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point for the third time this season in a non-conference game. Coming off two defeats by the Pointers when the teams met earlier this year, the Oles were hoping for a win. Stevens Point got on the scoreboard first and led 4-0 after the first period. However, the Oles came out strong in the second and scored quickly. Senior captain Leslie Taylor (Mendota Heights, MN) scored for the Oles with an assist by Anne Whipple (SO, Neenah, WI). The Pointers went on to score three more goals before the Oles could score again. The Oles capitalized on a power play opportunity with a shot from the point by Sarah Ray (SO, St Paul, MN). The goal was assisted by Sara Vandenberg (JR, Mound, MN) and Whipple. The Pointers went on to win the game with a final score of 8-2. Sophomore goalie Amanda Chumbley (Menomonee Falls, WI) had 29 saves for the Oles.
