Ole Women Lose to Cross-town Rival Carleton
January 22, 2001
In a game where both teams put school pride on the line and that has been called "a season onto itself," Carleton came out ahead of St. Olaf, 67-56. Winning the first of two matchups, the Carleton Knights moved their record to 10-3 overall (8-2 MIAC). The loss puts St. Olaf at 6-7 overall 4-6 (MIAC).
Both teams got off to a slow start, with Carleton carrying a 25-21 lead into the half. The Oles held the Knights to only 30% shooting in the first half, but Carleton's Renee Willette led an offensive surge in the second that sealed the win for the Knights and left her with a game-high 24 points. Bridget Seegers contributed 16 points in the win.
Once again the Oles fell short at the free throw line going only 6-14, while the Knights connected on 15?21 shooting from the charity stripe. Said Coach Pat Buresh, " In all other categories we were pretty much knotted up and we shot well from the field."
For the Oles, Elisa Hatlevig (Sr., Rushford, Minn.) scored 19 points on nine for nine field goal shooting and garnered a game-high nine rebounds. Cara Battles (Jr., McGregor, Minn.) also had nine rebounds for the Oles, and Lisa Eidenschink (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) added 11 points, while Carrie Cooley (Jr., Villard, Minn.) chipped in 11.
The Oles square off with Gustavus Adolphus College at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24 in a doubleheader at Shoglund Center. The St. Olaf men will follow at 8:00 p.m.
