St. Olaf Women's Track and Field turns in Impressive Performances

The Ole Women's track and field team competed in the UW River Falls Early Bird Open meet last Friday night. No team scores were kept, but the Oles turned in a number of impressive performances.
Leading the way was senior Janet Hengel (Sartell, Minn.) with a provisional national qualifying mark in winning the pole vault (10'6"). Sophomore Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) was also a double champion. She followed an impressive 800 Meter leg (2:19.8) on the winning distance medley relay with a very fast 1000 Meter effort (3:04.49). Daymont teamed with Megan Call (Logan, Utah -1200 M), Taryn Weakly (Milwaukee, Wis. -400 M), and Marit Grorud (Fremont, Neb. -1600 M) for the win in the Distance Medley Relay (13:03.06).
Daymont, Hengel and Grorud joined Becky Peterson (FY, Plymouth, Minn.) on the 2nd place 4 X 400m relay team in a time of 4:16.47. The Oles got a number of very good early season performances from the young team and are looking forward to using the meet experience at the LaCrosse Invitational on Saturday, January 27. The Oles will take on the teams from Luther, Wartburg, St. Mary's, Winona State and the host team UW- LaCrosse.
