Ole Women Fall to Gustavus
January 25, 2001
The Ole women?s basketball team fell to Gustavus Adolphus 56-42 at Skoglund Center. Elisa Hatlevig (Sr., Rushford, Minn.), leading scorer for the Oles, finished the night with 12 points, followed by Liz Mundahl (So., Eagan, Minn.) and Amanda Renneke (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) each with eight. Lisa Eidenschink (So., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) led the Oles on the glass with six rebounds.
The Oles struggled in the first half, scoring their first points of the night three minutes into the game when Hatlevig sank two from the line, pulling the Oles within six. The Gusties held the advantage for most of the half, heading into the locker room with a 32-24 advantage. Elisa Hatlevig, with an assist by Liz Woodrow (Jr., Aitkin, Minn.), opened up the scoring in the second half for the Oles and the two teams traded baskets for the first eight minutes. Lori Enlund (FY, Bloomington, Ill.) tossed in an eight-foot jumper on the baseline to keep the Oles within striking distance. The St. Olaf defense took over at that point and brought the Oles within six at the 9:00 minute mark, allowing Gustavus only four points in a four minute span. The Oles turned the ball over on the next two possessions and allowed two easy baskets for the Gusties. Gustavus maintained their momentum in the last six minutes for the win.
Said Coach Pat Buresh, "Once again, we played well in many categories. We played tough defense, we did not turn the ball over against heavy pressure and we rebounded well. You can?t shoot 29% from the field and win games."
The Oles will host the University of St. Mary?s at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th at Skoglund Center.
