In the Men's basketball game yesterday, Gustavus, perched on top in the MIAC and ranked 8th in the nation just edged by St. Olaf with a 78-75 win. This leaves St. Olaf at 3-8 in the MIAC and 5-10 overall. St. Olaf's Mike Ludwig, who leads the MIAC in scoring, did not let down the fans, scoring a game high of 30, on 11 for 23 shooting. He and teammate Matt Schlenker, led all players on the boards, snaring 10 rebounds each.

The game opened with Gustavus' Chad Henke making a field goal thirteen seconds into the game, drawing first blood. The Oles showed that they were up to the challenge however, when Matt Schlenker matched the two points with 2 shots from the charity stripe. The two teams battled it out, matching each other almost point for point most of the first half. At the end of the first half, the Oles trailed 36-31. The second half opened as Bobby Johnson from Gustavus sunk a shot from the field. The Oles quickly reciprocated double, making two field goals. It seemed as if the Oles might establish control when Gustavus committed a personal foul and a technical foul with the Oles capitalizing and going ahead 40-36. The Gusties and the Oles fought it out, neck and neck for the remainder of the game, but Gustavus clinched the game when Chris TeBrake made a field goal with 19 seconds remaining in the game making the score 78-72. Ludwig was able to make one more three at the buzzer as the Oles fell 78-75

St. Olaf travels to Winona as they take on Saint Mary's on Saturday, January 27th, at 3 p.m.
