NORTHFIELD, Minn. ?St. Olaf College?s Jazz Ensemble I will present its fall concert with guest trumpet player Ramon Vasquez on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the college.

The concert, free and open to the public, will be at 8 p.m. in the Pause of Buntrock Commons. For more information please call (507) 646-3179.

Jazz Ensemble I, directed by St. Olaf music faculty member David Hagedorn, will perform "Basically Blues" by Phil Wilson; "Bachi" by Clare Fischer; "Eleventh Hour" by Tom Matta; "Midnight Run" by Bill Holman; "Love for Sale" arranged by student Dan Cavanagh; "Blue Units" by Chuck Dotas; "Naima" by John Coltrane, arranged by Manny Mendelson; "Woodchopper?s Ball" by Hermon and Biship; "Concerto for Cootie" by Duke Ellington; "Perdido" by Juan Tizol; and "Greetings and Salutations" by Thad Jones.

Vasquez teaches trumpet at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and is an artist/clinician for the Edwards Instrument Co. of Elkhorn, Wis. He has played trumpet with the One O?Clock lab band and Two O?Clock lab band at North Texas University, played lead trumpet with the Big Time Jazz Orchestra in Duluth, and performed with the Minnesota Contemporary Ensemble, the 25th Anniversary Disney All-American College Marching Band, and the Pete Peterson Experience Big Band of Dallas.

In 1997 Vasquez won the masters division of the National Trumpet Competition in Fairfax, Va., and he has performed in the Altenburg Competition in Germany, the International Trumpet Guild Conference in 1994, and various other classical ensembles.

Hagedorn teaches percussion, jazz studies and music theory at St. Olaf College. He has performed on percussion instruments with world-renowned jazz musicians and ensembles, has regularly performed with jazz groups Pure Joy and Low Blows, and has recorded with the George Russell Living Time Orchestra on Blue Note Recordings and with jazz singer Debbie Duncan on Igmod Recordings.

In addition to jazz, Hagedorn performs classical music with such groups as the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Contemporary Ensemble.
