Phyllis Schlafly to speak at St. Olaf College Nov. 20

NORTHFIELD, Minn. ? Phyllis Schlafly, president of the conservative, pro-family Eagle Forum, will speak at St. Olaf College on Monday, Nov. 20.

Her talk, sponsored by the student Political Awareness Committee, will start at 7:30 p.m. in Kelsey Theater of the Communication-Theater Building. Tickets ($5) will be available at the door.

Schlafly is a lawyer, syndicated columnist, radio commentator and author of 16 books. She has been a national leader of the conservative movement since the publication of her best-selling 1964 book, A Choice Not An Echo, considered by many conservatives to be one of the top 10 conservative books of all time. Her other books discuss family and feminism (The Power of The Positive Woman), nuclear strategy (Strike From Space), education (Child Abuse in the Classroom) and childcare (Who Will Rock the Cradle?).

For years a leading critic of the feminist movement, she has testified before more than 50 legislative committees, and has lectured or debated on hundreds of college campuses. She has been interviewed on almost every national radio talk show. Schlafly was appointed by President Ronald Reagan to the Commission on the Bicentennial of the U.S. Constitution.

She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington University, received a J.D. from Washington University Law School, and earned a master?s degree in political science from Harvard University. The mother of six children, Schlafly was the 1992 Illinois Mother of the Year.
