Spreigl Sets MIAC Scoring Record
November 21, 2000
After an exemplary performance against cross-town rival Carleton, Manuel Spreigl (Jr., So. St. Paul, Minn.) was named MIAC Offensive Player of the Week.
Breaking a MIAC single game scoring record, Spreigl carried for 259 yards on 37 carries and claimed 6 touchdowns for the St. Olaf football team. In the highly sought after "Battle for the Goat" between St. Olaf and Carleton, Spreigl scored every touchdown for the Oles. Spreigl scored 36 points, breaking Jeff Norman's record of 34 points set in 1976. Previously named Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season, Spreigl helped lead St. Olaf to 6-3 (7-3), 3rd place finish in the MIAC, their best finish since 1991.
Along with all of the MIAC accolades, Spreigl was recently named National Player of the Week by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette. The honor came after Spreigl rushed for 259 yards on 37 carries and six touchdowns in the Oles' 42-35 win over Carleton.
