Bresnan Races at Nationals

St. Olaf senior Mark Bresnan raced to 112th place at the Division III national cross-country championships on Saturday in Spokane, Washington. The Ole was one of the more improbable qualifiers in the meet, grabbing the last individual spot from the central region, but finished squarely in the middle of the 214 runner field.

Coach Bill Thornton recommended a patient approach, and Bresnan found himself in last place at the first turn, 400 meters into the race. However, he worked steadily through the field over the last four miles, and Thornton praised the senior's toughness through the last half of the race. Bresnan equaled his career best time, running 26:29 on a snowy, challenging eight-kilometer path through the Wandermere golf course. He was the seventh MIAC competitor across the finish line, and the fifteenth finisher from the central region.
