Early issues of Manitou Messenger now online
March 5, 2009
The original Ole writers introduced the first issue of the Manitou Messenger in January 1887 with this note: "Once every month, the Manitou Messenger proposes to go his rounds; whether this is a task which he had better, perhaps, never undertaken is a question to be determined by the value of his message." Time has decided that this was, indeed, a good task.
Now anyone can peruse this first issue and 28 other book volumes from the first 30 years of the Manitou Messenger online. These early issues include stories about everything from the Great War to Prohibition to women playing tennis. Visitors to the online collection can browse through and read the early issues in their entirety or use a search function to look up specific items of interest.
