Atzinger takes silver at World Piano Competition
July 12, 2007
St. Olaf Assistant Professor of Piano Christopher Atzinger recently won second prize at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati July 7. The competition drew 20 contestants, ages 18-30, who competed for a number of prizes, including a chance to perform a recital in Alice Tully Hall and a $10,000 grand prize. Atzinger's silver medal came with a $5,000 cash award. The competition started July 2.
"One just hopes to be in contention on the last day, and that was what happened this time," says Atzinger, who played Mendelssohn's First Piano Concerto. Atzinger, an active performer around the world, strives for a balanced lifestyle of performer and teacher.
The World Piano Competition has been traveling the globe since 1956.
