The St. Olaf baseball team had five on the MIAC's All-Conference team and the league's coach of the year, Matt McDonald '89, it was announced recently.

It was the third time McDonald, in his 13th season at St. Oalf, won the award named for his predecessor -- Jim Dimick. McDonald previously won the award in 1998 and 2000. This season the Oles won their fourth regular-season title under McDonald, who has compiled a 345-161 record in his tenure.

Junior Andrew Schmiesing was named to the team for the second straight season. Schmiesing led the team in average (.467), hits (64), doubles (18), triples (6), homeruns (7), slugging percentage (.839), walks (25) and runs (52). Schmiesing also had 171 career hits, good for fourth all-time.

Senior third baseman Chris Terrazas made his third appearance on the All-MIAC team with his selection this spring. Terrazas has hit .420 this season with a team-best 42 RBI.

Josh Maus was named to the squad for the first time. A junior from Northfield, Maus filled in for an injured Todd Mathison and went 22-for-39 in conference play to lead the league in hitting.

Mathison remained an All-MIAC pick, despite missing about half of the season. He still made five appearances, going 3-0 with a 1.31 ERA, which was best in the league, and also picked up a save.

Junior Paul Johnson, a two-time pick, was an All-Conference pitcher too. Johnson was third in the league in strikeouts (38) and innings (38.2) and second in wins (4-tie).
