International Night set for March 10
March 9, 2007
The 41st Annual International Night, themed 'Colour my World,' will take place Saturday, March 10, 7-9 p.m. The event will include dancing and music performances in the Lion's Pause student club, followed by an international food reception in Stav Hall.
Tickets ($5 for students and $10 for adults) can be reserved by contacting the St. Olaf International Students Organization. Preorder forms for DVDs also are available. All proceeds from the event will go to an organization for children.
Luyen Phan '92, an admissions counselor and leading force in the planning of this event, calls International Night a celebration of the diversity of cultures and talents on the St. Olaf campus. "It recognizes the importance of international students to the St. Olaf community and the global experiences all our students bring to the campus, regardless of their upbringing, citizenship, or study abroad and off-campus experiences," he says.
The tradition of setting aside a night to celebrate cultural diversity and St Olaf's international students began in 1966 with the performance aspect added in 1981. Today, all phases of the evening -- from planning and organizing to cooking and performing -- are carried out by more than 100 dedicated St. Olaf students.
