The Lure of the Roman Arena: Comparative and Psychological Perspectives
2nd Annual Society of Ancient History Lecture Series
Garrett Fagan, professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and History at Pennsylvania State University, will use a comparative and psychological approach to his examination of ancient Romans' attraction to brutal arena games. The lecture promises to be entertaining and accessible to a wide range of interests and backgrounds.
Fagan's research interests focuses on Roman social and political history, Latin epigraphy, ancient warfare, and archaeological methodology. His most recent book, The Lure of the Arena: Social Psychology, Spectatorship and the Roman Games, provides the foundation for this lecture.
