Ole minister, hockey dad, featured in 'N.Y. Times'

By Tom Vogel
March 19, 2007

Tim Ives '77 is the subject of a recent New York Times article about his 8-year-old daughter Abbie's love for hockey and her determination to play the sport.

Ives, a minister at the First Congregation Church in Chappaqua, N.Y., grew up playing hockey in Minnesota and was goalie for St. Olaf College (which the Times notes did not win one regular-season game during Ives' senior year). He describes his reservations when it comes to letting Abbie, the only girl on an all-boys' team, on the ice, but ultimately supports his daughter's passion.

"I'm an old parent," Ives says, "and old people forget how much can be achieved in a short time when you are young doing something you love."
