Oslo Chamber Choir to perform
February 20, 2007
Boe Memorial Chapel, 7:30 p.m.
For its Minnesota tour, the Oslo Chamber Choir will perform a varied repertoire of Norwegian music led by conductor, Håkon Nystedt, grandson of noted Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt. The choir will perform a selection of Norwegian traditional music with well-known Norwegian folk singer Berit Opheim as guest artist and compositions by Edvard Grieg and Knut Nystedt.
Included in the program are parts of "Four Psalms", the last work composed by Grieg. Built upon four religious folk tunes, these compositions reveal the frequent inspiration Grieg received from his native folk music.
One of the best-known contemporary Norwegian composers, Knut Nystedt actually lived and worked as a conductor and organist in Minneapolis in 1969. The Oslo Chamber Choir has selected to perform on this tour several sacred motets by Nystedt that have become standards of Norwegian choral literature. The concert is free and open to the public.
