Katrina-survivor alumnus returns home to rebuild

By Tom Vogel
December 19, 2006

Nearly 16 months after Hurricane Katrina devastated his home, city and family, Robert Green '77 has returned to his Tennessee Street property in New Orleans to rebuild. An article in the New Orleans-area Times-Picayune describes Green's ordeal -- during which he lost his mother and his 4-year-old granddaughter -- and his subsequent efforts to start over again.

Today Green is the first person from the neighborhood where he lived for 38 years to come back. He hopes to rebuild his house, as well as his former career as a tax preparer. One particular bright spot in Green's immediate future: two of the grandchildren with whom he weathered the storm will spend Christmas with him this year.
