Ruby offers advice on student loans

By Tom Vogel
June 1, 2006

Kathy Ruby, St. Olaf's director of financial aid, offers her expertise to students and parents with college loans in an article in the Star Tribune. Prompted by the U.S. Department of Education's recent announcement that they will raise interest rates on student loans, federal Stafford loans and PLUS loans, Ruby has been offering workshops on consolidation and advising parents with outstanding PLUS loans to lock in their rates.

In the article, Ruby recommends that students "look at the big picture" when considering consolidation, and she warns them to avoid extending the length of their loans.
