In-class notes for 04/07/2020

CS 263 (ESD), Spring 2020

  • Please post questions to chat as they occur to you

Syllabus revisions for remote teaching

  • Daily plan

    • Asynchronous Data Collection Plan presentations to be specified (e.g., record presentation; Piazza or Moodle forum discussion)

    • Carry out the same pieces, but SCOPING - reduced expectations after break

  • Grading

    • Retained same overall percentages

    • Note: Will tally time logs separately for before break/after break, each counting for half.

Strategy for continuing the course

The general plan is to continue recording general instruction and announcements at the beginning of each regular class time, and for RAB to meet with teams either during those periods or at other regular times to be worked out with each team.

  • Attending class meetings is not required.
However, you are responsible for material in-class videos, and for revised requirements
    - (team and individual) deliverables, individual time logging, and for team presentations/major deliverables.

  • Office hours and individual appointments will be provided by Meet hangouts linked to Google calendar.

    • Just join the office hour Meet hangouts at the regular times.

    • To sign up for an individual appointment, submit a request using my appointment page, as before.

      • I will watch for appointments, and notify you when I create a calendar entry with your Meet videoconferencing for that time.

  • Each team's Meet hangout "room" is accessible only to that team and the instructor(s) - you may freely use your team's Meet for all team meetings. (You can join that Meet at any time by clicking on a calendar entry for it.)

  • Deliverable submissions are listed in Project deliverables by date, due at midnight anywhere on Earth (5am the next morning Northfield time) on the indicated date, as before.

  • Backup professors - If RAB becomes unavailable, Prof Jensen and/or Prof Hall-Holt will fill in as instructor. They are/will be added to course resources (Moodle, Piazza, Meet hangouts, access to deliverables, etc.) so they can step into this backup role.
