Costume Resource Available for Educational Projects
USITT recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Costume Design and Technology Commission recognized the work of 50 influential theatrical costume designers from the last 50 years. Among them were many designers whose work has been produced at the Guthrie or Children's Theatre Company. (Names are in bold below.) The costumes envisioned by these designers and created by the Guthrie and CTC's skilled costume departments are housed at CostumeRentals. While we make these costumes available for rental across the country, we also support the educational missions of both organizations. I encourage you to take advantage of the CostumeRentals warehouse as educational tool and source of inspiration.
- Having a hard time rendering a particular costume item for your design?? Come put one on a mannequin and use it as a model.
- Wondering if it might work to juxtapose two time periods or combine several period lines?? Put concrete examples together and see what you think.
- Struggling to think outside the fabric store?? Look at the numerous examples of fabrics which have been modified with block printing, applied stripes, or other surface design techniques.
Individuals can drop by during our walk-in hours. You are also welcome to schedule an appointment for yourself or a group. Plan a tour, costume history quiz, or inspirational scavenger hunt!

50 Costume Designers - 50 Years
Designers were chosen by a poll of members of the Costume Design & Technology Commission. Panel members Judy Adamson, Kathleen Donnelly, LaLonnie Lehman, Jeff Lieder, Deb Krajac, and Amy RohrBerg presented a brief biography of the designers along with images of their work. Names in bold have designed for either The Guthrie Theater or the Children's Theatre Company.
